Some writers get inspiration from deep thoughts or deep emotions. Or deep derps. Whatever. I'm not that kind of writer. Classic films inspire me. So call me shallow. Or Call Me Madam or Bwana or Mister Tibbs. Better yet, don't call me at all. I'm either writing or watching TCM or Criterion right now.
The past is present. Or future. Or both. Just ask a quantum physicist. Their realm is deliciously weird, which makes my world Sunbeam white bread bland. I just play with invisible dolls. That's what fiction is. You may be writing fiction or reading it, but, either way, you're still playing with dolls. It's not as thrilling as playing with reality, like the quantum physicists do, but there's much less math involved.
